Black and White Digital: Channel Mixer

These are my black and white photographs, i took 2 from my winter pictures and i changed them into black and white, i used the channel mixer to get the exact tints i wanted. the first picture was taken in a silo, and i liked how the light came in from the top and the sides, and the bottom one was taken at a park, and its not my favorite picture but, it worked for the assignment. The silo picture looks sort of grainy and i really dont know why, i think because of the glowing light. and the second picture its hard to destinct that the slide is going up, because the snow is all the same tone of white.

LONG EXPOSURE WINTER

i dont know which to use. the 2 top ones i know i'm going to use for sure, but the bottom ones. help me deside.

To me there are many aspects of winter.
the cold, but also warm feeling it gives me, makes me love the season.
i find winter very comforting, and suttle.
the top picture, i love the back lighting, and the shadow of the trees, and the dark footsteps leading your eye around the picture. The contrasting yellows and blues also, give the COOL feeling. My second picture, the bottom one, shows a sense of lonleyness but, also warmth, because of the colors. the shacks all alone, and everythings so still. the colors in this were FOR REAL! because of the lighting ontop of the hill to the right. and the sky was really that color, it was a long exposure.

and this one was taken at the airport, i love the colors, and the highlight of the planes and the lights in the background. the blue signs bring your eye in to for/ground/middleground, and the orange lights bring your eye to the background lights. And you can see a bit of the parts of the lights of the taillights driving through

Lighting Tecniques: Thanksgiving Assignment

When i was reading a magazine, this guy had explained how to do a panoramic on photo shop, well he had a mac computer, and NOT that it should matter, but everything on there, was NOT on our photo shop. so i had to do it manually. i took three pictures, and combined them together, to make it look longer, we were in closed in a silo, and there was lighting coming from the top. I really liked this, and i like how it is round, and you can tell its round, (gets smaller on the inside). Also in the magazine he had warped it, and i tried and it wasnt what i was expecting. but over all i like how it turned out. the snow reflected light off to his face, and the different colors, and the darkness of the walls give the picture contrast. I wish he would have been wearing something different.

- I used a black sheet for the background, and she was up against a fridge. i was experimenting with lighting from above, like i saw in this magazine of a guy with just the middle of his face lit up, and the light was comming from above. and it didn't work as well as i thought. we tried different locations of light, and positions, and this is the best we came up with. her hands are the highest contrast, and her face has grey, black and white tones. Shes Catching light. we tried many different tecniques, and this one turned out best, the contrast in the fridge, the back of her hands, and the front of her hands is great, and the fridge reflected light off.
My least favorite is this one, and it was orignionally was supposed to be a back lighting, but i was told to do another one. i wish i could have not put all the grain in it, and just had it blurry. she looks out of place (from the picture, looks like i just pasted her in there). The meaning behind this picture was lonleyness, insecurity, and discomfort. It was based off numerious events over the weekend, that left BOTH of us feeling that way. What better way to capture it then a portrait.

Myth

My myth didnt turn out as i expected. If i could change anything, it would be the lighting, and how close she is to the cross. I admit it is clique. The figger is too dark, but is the focal point because the contrast of her and the background are great.
the meaning behind this is, Persephone had to go to the underworld, because she ate the pomigranite, well The figger is Persophone, and shes dreading what she had got herself into. The cross symbolizes where she wants to be (on earth, by the gods) and not in the underworld.
